Some of the earliest songs recorded by the then new partnership.
All songs recorded at SunGod I (I'm Lost (Late) Sungod Connecticut)
Feels Good
Main Vocal: Anthony Mills
Guitars: Andrew Cockburn
Bass: Steve Wilkinson
Sequencing & Mixing : Mills & Cockburn
Written in it's entirety by Ant, Steve added a bass line. One of many versions of this particular song, various approaches to instrumentation and rhythm were tried, this version being the most successful but we never felt like we got it quite right and eventually moved on.
I'm Lost
Main Vocal: Anthony Mills
Guitars: Andrew Cockburn
Bass: Steve Wilkinson
Sequencing & Mixing : Mills & Cockburn
Penned by Ant, I'm Lost is another song that we never quite captured. This is a representative early version followed by a Later version. The song was developed from the earlier version while the band was gigging. The bass line was extended and improved by Steve and the song was taken a little upbeat into Ballad territory with drums and acoustic guitar, as evidenced in the late version. The soulful lead guitar is retained but makes more sense in the context of the more upbeat setting. Still, this song is a work in progress but one we keep returning to. Of particular note is Steve's inspired bass line in the break - sequenced in the later version but true to Steve's final composition. Here, the guitars are pitch shifted in an experimental key change to better accommodate Ant's increased vocal range.
Perfect Land
Main Vocal: Anthony Mills
Guitars: Andrew Cockburn
Keyboards; Andrew Cockburn
Bass: Steve Wilkinson
Sequencing & Mixing : Mills & Cockburn
Song written by Ant, Steve adding his take on the bass. This song was an early example of everything coming together the way we hoped. In particular, an early foray into vocal harmonies was evident in this song. The guitar arpeggios at the beginning although originally written by Ant were to his frustration outside his ability to play at that time. The timely arrival of Andrew to the partnership solved this conundrum (this was probably the very first song we recorded together).
Seize the Day
Main Vocal: Anthony Mills
Guitars: Andrew Cockburn
Bass: Steve Wilkinson
Sequencing & Mixing : Mills & Cockburn
One of several versions of this song, again, never really finished. The annoying arpeggios were later dropped, and vocal harmonies were developed.
